Corner Protection and Reinforcement for Plaster Finishes

Sharp corners and changes in background need support beneath the finished plaster. MacBlair stocks beads and reinforcement mesh for forming straight arrises, protecting exposed edges and strengthening areas where cracking is more likely.

Choose a bead for the plaster depth, location and exposure. Angle beads form external corners, stop or edge profiles terminate plaster cleanly, and mesh provides reinforcement across selected backgrounds or junctions. Galvanised products intended for dry interiors should not be assumed to suit wet or exterior conditions.

Fix profiles straight, at the stated intervals, without twisting the nose. Mesh should lie flat with the specified overlap and embedment, not sit exposed at the surface. Prepare the wider lining with building materials for walls and ceilings, coordinate framed backgrounds with timber studwork, and finish cured surfaces using compatible painting and decorating products.

Beads Mesh FAQ's

Use an angle bead compatible with the plaster depth, substrate and exposure. Interior, exterior and wet-area conditions can require different materials or coatings.

Only where the manufacturer states that the product and finish are approved for the exposure and render system. Do not assume an internal bead will resist exterior moisture.

Set it straight and plumb using the approved nails, staples, adhesive or plaster dabs at the stated spacing. Avoid deforming the nose during fixing.

Use it where the plaster or render system specifies reinforcement, such as selected background junctions or crack-prone areas. Position and overlap it according to the system guide.

Moisture, damaged coatings or an incompatible bead can cause corrosion staining. Identify the water source and replace affected material with the correct exposure-rated component.
