Roof Fixings

How Expansion Joint Components Support Brick and Block Construction

Roof coverings rely on small components to resist wind uplift and repeated weather exposure. MacBlair stocks roof fixings for tiles, slates, sheets and associated details, allowing the fastener to be matched to both covering and support.

Material, length, head, washer and corrosion resistance all matter. Use the fixing schedule supplied for the roof zone and exposure, with clips or additional mechanical restraint where required. A fixing that fits the hole is not necessarily compatible with the covering or treated timber beneath.

Coordinate nails and clips with slates and tiles, and use purpose-made screws for profiled roofing sheets. Battens must meet the required grade from roofing timber. At junctions, combine mechanical fixing with only the specified roofing sealant.

Roof Fixings FAQ's

Use the tile manufacturer's fixing specification for the roof zone, pitch and exposure. It may require nails, clips or both.

No. Use system fixings with the correct drill point, corrosion protection, washer and length for the sheet and support.

Use the corrosion-resistant material stated for the slate and exposure, commonly copper or approved stainless steel. Follow the supplier specification.

Compress the sealing washer enough to seal without crushing or splitting it. Follow the manufacturer's torque and visual guidance.

Reusing weathered fixings risks corrosion, poor grip and damaged seals. Install new compatible fixings unless the system maker explicitly permits reuse.
