Plasterboard

Gypsum Boards for Drylining Walls and Ceilings

Plasterboard creates a flat lining over timber or metal framing and can also be bonded to prepared masonry where the selected system permits it. MacBlair stocks boards for walls, ceilings and partitions, giving projects a consistent base for jointing, skimming or decoration.

Choose the board from the full performance requirement, not size alone. Thickness, edge profile, weight and resistance to moisture, fire, impact or sound vary by product. Keep boards dry and flat, carry them on edge with enough people for the weight, and cut openings without damaging the face paper.

Fixing centres and screw length must match the board and background. Coordinate partitions with timber studwork and fit partition insulation before closing the second face. For combined thermal lining, use the specified insulated plasterboard system. Seal and finish joints to the manufacturer's method.

Plasterboard FAQ's

Use the thickness stated for the wall or ceiling system. Span, stud or joist spacing, number of layers and required fire or sound performance all affect the choice.

Tapered edges create a recess for tape and jointing compound when the board will be jointed. Square edges are often used where the face will receive a full skim, subject to the system.

Standard board should not be assumed to handle humid or wet locations. Select a moisture-rated system for the exposure and follow the tiling or finish guidance.

Some boards can be installed with an approved adhesive lining system on a prepared background. Check moisture, wall condition and the board manufacturer's instructions first.

Install the board in the orientation shown by its manufacturer. The finished face is normally intended to receive jointing or plaster, but specialist products can differ.
