Dust Suppression

Dust Control Equipment for Cutting and Drilling

Dust suppression controls airborne particles created during cutting, grinding and drilling. The correct method depends on the material, tool and task, with silica-containing masonry demanding particularly careful control.

Use compatible on-tool extraction or water suppression at the point where dust is produced. Connectors, guards and flow must suit the equipment. Browse related core drilling and cutting accessories when planning a complete setup.

Respiratory protection may still be required after engineering controls are applied. Follow the risk assessment, maintain equipment and never rely on general room ventilation alone for high-dust work.

Dust Suppression FAQs

No. Respiratory protection does not replace control at source. Use effective extraction or water suppression first, then add suitable face-fit-tested RPE where the assessment requires it.

A compatible shroud or hood captures dust close to the cutting or drilling point and sends it to a suitable extractor. Correct fit, airflow and filter class are essential.

It is used with equipment specifically designed for wet operation, particularly some masonry cutting and core work. Water must reach the cutting point at an effective flow.

Respirable crystalline silica can be released from concrete, brick and mortar and can cause serious lung disease. Exposure must be assessed and controlled.

Inspect hoses, seals, shrouds, water feeds and filters before work. Empty or change collection components using a method that prevents captured dust becoming airborne again.
