Cement Mixers

Consistent Batches for Mortar and Concrete Work

Cement Mixers prepare repeat batches of mortar or concrete with less manual turning than mixing by hand. MacBlair stocks them within the site equipment range for building, paving and repair work. Drum capacity, usable batch size, power supply and portability should be matched to the volume and working area. Frequent small batches may suit repair work, while continuous laying needs greater planned output.

Check that the mixer's electrical rating and plug match the planned supply. On construction sites, a compatible site transformer may form part of the temporary electrical system. Position the machine on firm, level ground near materials and water, while keeping clear space for loading, tipping and wheelbarrow access. Do not exceed the manufacturer's batch capacity. Keep cement, aggregate and tools close enough for efficient loading without blocking safe movement.

Cement Mixers have moving parts and electrical hazards that require control. Keep guards fitted, isolate the supply before cleaning or clearing a blockage, and never reach into a rotating drum. Add materials in the order stated by the mix specification or manufacturer, control dust when handling dry cement and wear the protective equipment identified by the task assessment. Avoid loose clothing around the drum and keep other people outside the operating area.

Plan a consistent measuring method so water and constituent proportions do not drift between batches. Move the mixed material with a suitable wheelbarrow along a clear route. Wash residue from the drum before it hardens without directing water at electrical parts, then inspect cables, plugs, switches, guards and the tipping mechanism before storage. Allow cleaned parts to dry before coiling cables or covering the machine for storage.

Cement Mixers FAQs

Choose by usable batch output rather than drum volume alone. Estimate the material needed between placement and setting, then select a mixer that can produce manageable batches without exceeding its stated capacity.

Only use a supply, plug, lead and protective arrangement compatible with the mixer's rating and the site electrical plan. Construction sites often use reduced-voltage systems, so check the equipment instructions and competent electrical assessment first.

Follow the specified mix design and the mixer manufacturer's method. The sequence can vary, but measured materials and water should be added consistently to avoid weak, overly wet or poorly blended batches.

Isolate it from the electrical supply, follow the manufacturer's procedure and remove residue before it hardens. Keep hands clear of moving parts and prevent wash water from entering plugs, switches or the motor.

A firm, level base reduces movement and helps the drum tip in a controlled way. It also lowers the chance of the machine shifting while loaded or obstructing the route used to collect the mix.
