Pipe Covers & Clips

Fixing Clips and Finishing Pieces for Visible Pipework

Pipe clips hold plumbing runs in position, while covers and collars tidy visible entries through walls or floors. MacBlair stocks these finishing and support parts for use with copper tube and compatible plumbing systems.

Match the clip to the pipe’s outside diameter and the installation temperature. Hot-water and heating pipes expand as they warm, so the support layout must hold the run without gripping it so tightly that movement causes noise or stress.

Fixings need to suit the background. Masonry, timber and hollow walls carry loads differently, and a clip is only as secure as the screw and plug behind it. Keep spacing close enough to prevent sagging, particularly at bends, valves and changes of direction.

Decorative covers can hide small gaps where pipework passes through a finished surface, but they do not replace fire stopping or weather sealing. Plan them with plastic barrier pipe or the wider plumbing fittings range.

Pipe Cover & Clips FAQ's

Match the clip’s stated size to the pipe outside diameter and material. Insulated pipes need clips or spacing that account for the insulation thickness.

Spacing depends on pipe material, diameter, temperature and whether the run is horizontal or vertical. Follow the pipe-system manufacturer’s support table.

Only if rated for the pipe material and operating temperature. Hot pipes need allowance for thermal movement, while cold pipes may also carry insulation.

Expansion can make pipe rub against tight clips, joists or holes. Correct support, clearance and sleeves can reduce movement noise.

Most decorative collars only cover the visible gap. Fire, acoustic, water or weather penetrations need a separate specified sealing system.
