Recip Saws

Sabre Saws for Demolition and Rough Cutting

Recip saws make rapid rough cuts during demolition, renovation and clearance work. Their long back-and-forth stroke reaches awkward positions but is intended for speed rather than a fine finished edge.

Choose a blade for timber, metal or mixed material and ensure it is long enough to remain through the work during the full stroke. For cleaner shaped cuts, use a jigsaw; for straight timber cuts, consider a circular saw.

Check tool weight, stroke length, variable speed and blade-change system. Secure loose work, inspect for hidden services and wear suitable eye, hearing and hand protection.

Recip Saw FAQs

It is used for fast rough cutting in demolition and renovation, including timber, pipe and sheet material with the correct blade. It is less suited to fine joinery or precision straight cuts.

Use a compatible demolition blade rated for wood with embedded nails. Select sufficient length and keep the shoe against the work to reduce vibration.

Yes, with a metal-cutting blade whose tooth pitch suits the pipe wall. Clamp the pipe securely and use controlled speed so several teeth remain engaged.

The blade must remain beyond the workpiece at the furthest point of its stroke. Allow extra length for tool movement, but avoid an unnecessarily long blade that may flex.

Vibration increases when the shoe is not pressed against the work, the blade is too long or blunt, or the material is poorly supported. Stop and correct the setup before continuing.
