Drylining and Finishing Materials for Walls and Ceilings

MacBlair stocks the materials used to board, joint, repair and finish internal walls and ceilings. The plastering range covers plasterboard, plasters, fillers and primers, together with scrim tapes, board fixings, coving, beads and reinforcement mesh.

Start with the background and the performance the finished lining must provide. Board type, thickness, edge profile and fixing method should follow the wall or ceiling specification. Joint tape, compound and corner beads then work as a system to control cracking and create clean edges ready for decoration.

Plan the structure behind the finish before boarding. Timber studs and ceiling members must be straight and correctly spaced, while stud wall insulation is fitted before the final face closes. Where thermal board is specified, compare options in insulated plasterboard. Follow the complete tested system for fire, sound or moisture performance.

Plastering FAQ's

Match the board to the wall or ceiling system, required fire, acoustic, thermal or moisture performance, fixing method and finish. Follow the project specification rather than colour alone.

Yes, joints are normally reinforced with the tape and compound specified for the board system. This reduces cracking and forms a continuous surface for decoration.

No. Let it dry fully, then prepare and prime it for the selected paint system. Drying time varies with plaster depth, ventilation, temperature and humidity.

Plastering applies wet coats to a background. Drylining uses plasterboard fixed to a frame or bonded to masonry, followed by jointing or a skim finish.

Measure the net wall and ceiling area, use the manufacturer's coverage and add a reasonable allowance for cuts and waste. Openings and complex details affect the total.
