Plaster, Fillers & Primers

Compounds and Base Coats for Plastering Work

A sound finish begins with the condition of the background. MacBlair stocks plaster, fillers and primers for patch repairs, surface preparation and finishing work, covering the stages between a damaged or porous wall and its final decorative coat.

Use filler for local holes and cracks within the product's stated depth. Larger or friable areas need the loose material removed and may call for a plaster repair system instead. Primers and bonding agents control suction or improve the key on difficult backgrounds, but they must match both the substrate and the plaster or paint that follows.

Clean away dust, grease and unstable material before mixing or applying anything. Work within the stated temperature, mixing ratio and setting time, and never revive material that has begun to set by adding more water. Coordinate the broader job through interior building materials, check thermal upgrades in insulated plasterboard, and choose the final coating from painting and decorating products.

Plaster Fillers and Primers FAQ's

Use filler for local defects within its stated depth. Broad, deep or unstable areas may need a plaster repair system and more extensive background preparation.

A primer or bonding agent can control suction, seal a background or create a mechanical key. Select one approved for the substrate and finish being applied.

Only after checking that the paint is firmly bonded and compatible with the chosen preparation system. Remove loose coatings, clean the surface and follow the bonding product guidance.

Common causes include applying it too thickly, movement in the background, poor adhesion or filling before the area is dry. Repair the underlying cause before refilling.

Follow the pack instructions because depth, product type, temperature and humidity alter drying time. Sand only when the repair is dry through, not merely firm on the surface.
