Fire Valves

Remote Fuel Shut-Off Protection for Oil Heating Systems

A remote acting fire valve is a safety control for an oil-fired heating installation. When its heat sensor detects an abnormal temperature near the appliance, the valve closes the fuel supply from a remote position, limiting oil feeding a fire.

Selection is based on more than pipe connection size. The closing temperature, capillary length, valve orientation and compatibility with the fuel system must match the installation design. MacBlair stocks these controls within the wider oil heating spares range.

The sensor and valve need positions that comply with current regional requirements and the manufacturer’s instructions. Capillary tubing must reach without sharp bends, crushing or contact with damaging heat sources. This work should be completed by an OFTEC registered technician.

During service, the technician should test operation and inspect the complete oil line, tank and filter arrangement. Coordinate the device with the chosen oil-fired boiler and its compatible flue installation components.

Fire Valves FAQ's

It shuts off the oil supply when a remote heat sensor reaches its rated temperature, reducing the flow of fuel to an appliance involved in a fire.

Its position depends on the appliance, building and regional rules. An OFTEC registered technician should locate the valve and sensor according to current requirements.

It must reach from the valve body to the sensor position along a protected route without stretching or tight bends. Measure the planned route, not a straight line.

Some models can be reset after the cause has been investigated and the valve tested; others may need replacement. Never restore fuel before a competent safety check.

Use an OFTEC registered technician qualified for oil supply and appliance work. Selection, positioning and testing form part of the safety installation.
