Measure the room perimeter at ceiling level and add an allowance for mitres, offcuts and damaged pieces. Rooms with many corners require more waste.
Decorative Cornice for Wall and Ceiling Junctions
Coving softens the junction between wall and ceiling and can conceal a slightly uneven line that would otherwise catch the eye. MacBlair stocks interior coving for room refurbishment and new finishing work, with profiles intended to create a consistent border around the space.
Measure every wall at ceiling level and identify internal corners, external corners and breaks around chimney breasts. Profile size is described by more than its face width, so match the projection and drop when joining existing work. A mitre box or accurate guide keeps cuts in the correct orientation.
The wall and ceiling must be clean, sound and dry before the specified adhesive is applied. Support lengths until they grip, remove excess while fresh and fill joints before decoration. Coordinate timber details with interior mouldings and skirting and architrave, then finish the room with compatible paint and decorating materials.
Coving FAQ's
Mark the stated wall projection and ceiling projection from the product guide. Some profiles look symmetrical but fit differently, so test a short length first.
It should normally bond to a clean, sound background rather than wallpaper that may peel. Remove the strip beneath the coving and prepare the surface for the adhesive.
Use an adhesive approved for the coving material and wall or ceiling background. Follow its open time, coverage and temporary-support instructions.
Use the correct internal or external mitre orientation and cut with a fine saw in a coving mitre box or guide. Dry-fit both pieces before applying adhesive.
