Roller Kits and Sleeves for Smooth, Efficient Coverage

A roller can cover a wall quickly, but the sleeve determines how the paint reaches the surface. MacBlair stocks 4-inch mini roller sets, 9-inch roller and tray kits, long-pile sleeves, foam rollers, mohair sleeves and polyacrylic sets. The choice covers detailed work as well as broad areas.

Match the roller to the job:

  • Use a 9-inch roller for broad walls and ceilings with interior wall paint
  • Pick a 4-inch mini roller for doors, trim and confined areas
  • Choose a longer pile for rougher surfaces, checking the sleeve and paint instructions before starting
  • Use foam or mohair sleeves for smoother surfaces and compatible gloss finishes

Pour enough paint into the tray to load the sleeve without flooding it, then roll off the excess on the ribbed section. Work in overlapping sections and keep a wet edge. Pair replacement sleeves with the correct roller frame or extension pole, and put down floor and furniture protection before starting.

Roller Trays FAQ's

A short or medium pile is commonly used on smooth and lightly textured walls. Check the sleeve packaging and paint instructions because the recommended pile can vary with the coating.

Foam mini rollers suit small, smooth surfaces and compatible paints where a fine finish is wanted. They are useful on doors, trim and other areas that are awkward for a full-size roller.

For water-based paint, lightly dampening a clean sleeve can help it load evenly. Remove all excess water first and follow the sleeve and paint manufacturer's instructions.

A clean tray can be reused, but no old paint should remain to contaminate the next colour. Tray liners can make changes between coatings quicker and reduce cleaning.

Remove as much paint as possible, then clean the sleeve using the method stated on the paint tin. Rinse water-based paint thoroughly and allow the sleeve to dry before storing it.
