Only fuels listed as approved in the specific appliance manual. Check local smoke-control rules and use dry wood or the specified manufactured solid fuel.
Solid-Fuel Heating and Fireside Essentials
MacBlair's stoves and fuel range covers freestanding multi-fuel stoves, solid fuel, kindling, heat logs, coal bunkers, firebacks, flue products and room heaters. It brings the appliance and the day-to-day supplies into one part of the wider plumbing and heating range.
Start with the appliance rather than the fuel bag. Check its stated heat output, approved fuel types, room ventilation and flue requirements with a qualified installer. MacBlair lists smokeless coal, other coal products, kiln-dried hardwood logs and kindling, but not every fuel can be used in every stove or locality. Follow the model's manual and local smoke-control rules.
A 3-bag or 6-bag coal bunker keeps solid fuel stored away from rain and everyday foot traffic. Firebacks and flue parts need to match the existing installation, not just look similar. For a different whole-home heating approach, the boiler range covers water-based systems. Keep a carbon monoxide alarm in the installation plan and arrange chimney sweeping and servicing.
Stoves & Fuel FAQ's
Have room heat loss, insulation, ventilation and flue conditions assessed. A stove that is too large may be run too low and burn poorly.
Not always, but the existing chimney or flue must be assessed for the appliance and current requirements by a competent installer.
A bunker keeps bags organised and helps protect fuel from weather. Choose capacity by the number of bags stored and available space.
HETAS recommends at least annual sweeping, with frequency adjusted for the appliance, fuel and use. Follow the sweep’s advice.
