Oil Tanks

Heating Oil Storage for Different Sites

A replacement heating-oil tank has to fit the site, hold the right volume and meet the containment requirements that apply there. MacBlair's range includes bunded and single-skin tanks, plus gauges, alarms and accessories within its plumbing and heating selection.

Bunded tanks have an outer containment layer. MacBlair lists slimline, horizontal and vertical versions across several capacities, while the single-skin section includes slim rectangular models around 1,100 to 1,150 litres. Compare the external footprint, delivery access, outlet arrangement and fill position, not just nominal capacity.

Tank location, base, fire separation and pollution risk need assessment before purchase. Northern Ireland rules differ by site and use, so do not assume a single-skin tank is permitted or a particular capacity automatically requires bunding. An OFTEC-registered technician can advise on the installation. Match the tank to the oil boiler and any fire-safety valve specified for its supply line.

Oil Tanks FAQs

A bunded tank has an outer containment layer around the inner storage tank. A single-skin tank does not have that integrated secondary containment.

Requirements depend on the installation and pollution risk. Ask a competent oil-heating technician to assess the site under current Northern Ireland rules.

Consider annual usage, delivery frequency and available space, then compare the external dimensions and usable capacity of the listed models.

The base, access, boundaries, openings and nearby drains or water must be assessed against current guidance. Do not select a position by convenience alone.

Often, with compatible supply pipework and safety components, but a qualified technician should check the whole installation before commissioning.
