The Concept Conversions masonry stop sock is a 1200mm length of flexible mineral wool slab fully enclosed in a green polythene sleeve. It serves as a fire, thermal and acoustic barrier within masonry cavity walls. The barrier prevents fire penetration and minimises sound transmission between compartments, exceeding the requirements for a 30min cavity fire barrier as defined in Approved Document B.
Installation requires friction-fitting the stop sock as the brickwork and blockwork progresses. Designed specifically for 50mm cavity widths, the material is supplied thicker than the cavity depth to ensure a tight compression fit. Vertical applications require a damp proof course placed between the barrier and the outer leaf, while horizontal applications require a damp proof course or cavity tray with a minimum 100mm upstand directly above the barrier. Lengths must be tightly butt-jointed with no gaps.
The mineral wool core achieves a Euroclass A1 fire classification under BS EN 13501-1 and has been tested to BS476 and BS EN 1366 standards.
