The Concept Conversions Masonry Stop Sock is a flexible mineral wool slab fully enclosed in a polythene sleeve. This 120mm x 100mm x 1200mm variant is designed to restrict fire penetration and reduce sound transmission through masonry cavity walls. It serves as a combined fire, thermal, and acoustic barrier, suitable for cavities measuring between 80mm and 110mm in width.
These Cavity Barriers are supplied 10mm to 15mm thicker than the target cavity to ensure a secure friction fit without the need for mechanical fixings. During vertical installation, the barrier is compressed between the inner blockwork and outer brickwork as the wall is built up. For horizontal applications, the brick and blockwork are raised to the required level, and the barrier is friction-fitted once the mortar has set. Lengths must be tightly butt-jointed to maintain the integrity of the barrier, ensuring no gaps are left.
The mineral wool core achieves a Euroclass A1 fire classification under BS EN 13501-1, and the barrier exceeds the requirements for a 30-minute cavity fire barrier as outlined in Approved Document B. It also complies with the robust details for sound transmission under Approved Document E. Being water repellent and maintenance free, this component integrates effectively with other insulation products to meet current building regulations. The 120mm x 100mm x 1200mm size provides a 60-minute fire integrity rating and a 30-minute insulation rating under BS EN 1366 testing.
- Friction-fitted design requires no mechanical fixings for installation.
