Metsä Wood Spruce WeatherGuard is a moisture-resistant spruce plywood panel, featuring a hydrophobic surface that repels rainwater. This special surface treatment reduces water absorption during construction, while still allowing the panel to breathe and letting water vapor pass through.
WeatherGuard’s surface treatment is transparent, allowing for additional finishes such as paints, lacquers, varnishes, or other protective coatings designed for wood. The treated surface also supports adhesives, making it suitable for attaching carpets, linoleum, tiles, and similar coverings.
Field tests simulating real construction site conditions were conducted using full-size Spruce WeatherGuard panels laid horizontally, as they would be for roofing or flooring. After 72 hours, the panels absorbed only half the amount of water compared to untreated spruce plywood. As a result, Spruce WeatherGuard dries significantly faster—tests showed a 48-hour reduction in drying time.
