ubilee Clips and Hose Clips for Plumbing, Automotive and DIY

Jubilee clips, also known as hose clips or worm drive clamps, are one of the most practical fixings in any toolkit. A circular steel band tightens around a hose or pipe via a captive screw, creating a firm, leak-resistant seal that holds under pressure. MacBlair stocks zinc plated mild steel jubilee clips across a range of sizes, covering the most common domestic and light-trade applications.

Zinc plated clips suit the majority of indoor and sheltered jobs well. Common uses include:

  • Securing washing machine and dishwasher hoses to spigots
  • Attaching garden hose to outdoor tap connectors
  • Clamping flexible rubber or PVC hoses to rigid pipework
  • Connecting drain hoses and flexible plumbing runs
  • General automotive hose connections in dry, protected environments

Getting the size right matters. Measure the outside diameter of the hose once it is fitted onto the pipe or spigot, not the hose alone. A clip used near the middle of its stated size range will produce a better seal than one used at either extreme. All clips are tightened with a flat-blade screwdriver. No specialist tools are needed. For other hose and pipe fixings used alongside plumbing work, wall plugs for pipe brackets and masonry anchors are also available in the fixings range.

Jubilee clips sit within a wider fixings range at MacBlair. Cable ties and clips are a useful companion for cable management tasks, and where a waterproof seal is also needed around a joint, the silicone sealants range covers most domestic applications. Jubilee Clips FAQ's

Measure the outside diameter of the hose once it is assembled onto the fitting or spigot, not the hose on its own. Pushing the hose onto a barb or pipe causes it to expand slightly, so measuring the bare hose will give you a clip that is too small. Once you have your measurement, choose a clip where that figure falls in the middle of the stated size range rather than at either end. A clip used near the extremes of its range gives a less even clamp than one used around the midpoint.

They are the same thing. Jubilee is the original British brand name for the worm drive hose clamp, and in the UK and Ireland the term has become a generic shorthand for the product type, in much the same way that Hoover is used for vacuum cleaners. The mechanism is identical in all cases: a steel band tightened around a hose by turning a captive screw.

Zinc plated mild steel clips are well suited to sheltered and indoor applications, such as connecting washing machine hoses, indoor plumbing runs, or protected automotive connections. For outdoor installations that will see regular moisture, prolonged rain exposure, or salt air, stainless steel clips offer significantly better long-term corrosion resistance. If the fitting will be damp or exposed over time, stainless steel is the safer choice.

Slide the clip over the hose before pushing the hose onto the fitting. Once the hose is seated on the spigot or pipe, position the clip approximately 5–10mm from the end of the hose and tighten the screw clockwise with a flat-blade screwdriver. Tighten firmly but avoid excessive force: overtightening on a soft rubber or PVC hose can cut into the wall rather than seal it. Check the connection is secure by gently pulling the hose, then re-check after the system is under pressure for the first time.

Yes, in most cases. Provided the band has not been kinked, the housing is not cracked, and the screw thread is intact, a jubilee clip can be removed and refitted on the same or a different hose. Inspect the band and thread carefully before reusing. If the clip has been significantly overtightened or shows visible deformation, replace it rather than reuse it, as a damaged clip may not produce a reliable seal second time around.
