Mapei Topcem is a special hydraulic binder designed for producing normal setting, fast-drying screeds with controlled shrinkage. It replaces ordinary Portland cement in traditional sand and cement screed mixes, making it highly effective for both interior and exterior applications. This binder creates floating, unbonded, and bonded screeds on new and existing concrete slabs, providing a suitable base for floor coverings where rapid drying is required.
When mixed with graded 0 to 8mm aggregates and water, the binder creates a workable screed mix that offers 40 to 60 minutes of working time. It can be applied as a bonded screed directly to substrates using a bonding slurry, or as an unbonded screed over a damp proof membrane or insulation. The formulated screed sets rapidly, accepting light foot traffic after just 12 hours.
The accelerated drying time allows ceramic tiles to be laid after 24 hours, natural stone after two days, and moisture-sensitive coverings like wood and resilient flooring in four days. The product provides excellent resistance to solvents, oils, and alkalis, ensuring a stable, low-shrinkage substrate.
