This black iron 1/2" plug is for use with gas, steam and water applications and allows for a 1/2" female threaded fitting or pipe to be securely blanked off. When connecting the pipe and fittings the thread needs to be sealed using either PTFE tape or a jointing compound which creates an air tight seal.
