This black iron 1/2" hexagon nipple is for use with gas, steam and water applications and allows for two 1/2" female threaded fittings to be connected together. When connecting the pipe and fittings the thread needs to be sealed using either PTFE tape or a jointing compound which creates an air tight seal.
