The staff at MacBlair Coleraine have said a fond farewell to their valued colleague Robert McKee, who has retired after 50 years of service.

Robert is one of the company’s longest ever serving colleagues. He started with Jacobs Timber back in July 1973 and continued to work in the store once the business was acquired by Macnaughton Blair in 2004.

Andrew McCarron, MacBlair Coleraine Branch Manager said, “At MacBlair we value every team member, but 50 years is a remarkable achievement and demonstrates such a high level of commitment and dedication from Robert.

Robert was well known as “The Master” due to his extensive product knowledge, and he was called upon on a regular basis by customers, and indeed managers too, for advice and his experienced opinion. Robert was very helpful and always went out of his way to help customers who would regularly return to the branch to avail of “The Masters” knowledge.

Robert will be missed by all at MacBlair Coleraine, and we would like to again thank Robert and wish him a long and happy retirement on behalf the whole team”.

On his retirement, Robert said, “It has been a long time from where I started, but Jacobs was a good company to work for, and so was MacBlair. I enjoyed my work, and I miss it. There are a lot of people in MacBlair I got on well with, and they always looked after me. I also got a chance to work with the public more, as I looked after all the sheet materials in the store, and I drove a forklift. I met a lot of nice people and a lot of great builders. I definitely liked my job. I wouldn’t have been here 50 years otherwise.”
